Using AI Tools for Scripting

The presentation will explore the use of ChatGPT and other AI tools to assist with scripting, especially from the perspective of a non- or infrequent programmer. AI tools like ChatGPT make it easy to request commented pieces of code to complete specific functions. As a librarian with a decent understanding of coding, but who uses it too infrequently for it to be a well-established skillset, this is invaluable. AI tools present the possibility of creating and learning from specific scripts for specific tasks almost instantaneously.

The workshop will begin with demonstrating the use of a variety of AI tools, including ChatGPT. Specific examples will be provided for hands-on learning. Participants are welcome and encouraged to bring their own ideas for scripts they would like to create. To prepare for this workshop, participants are encouraged to consider creating a personal ChatGPT account ahead of time, and to please bring their own laptop.
